The new SM series… motor protection circuit breakers are here and they’re completely renewed in every range of rated current, from 0.1 to 100A. The series includes 3 sizes: SM1, with a range extended up to 40A (available versions: with buttons or with rotary knob for motor protection, with rotary knob for starters and a version for fuse monitoring), SM2 from 34 to 63 A and SM3 from 55 to 100A, both with rotary knobs.
The SM1 range provides magnetic and thermal protection (except for the SM1RM version, which is only magnetic): a complete solution that reduces the need for thermal overload relays and fuses in the system, saving space and wiring time. For added safety, the SM series motor protection circuit breakers disconnect all 3 phases, in contrast to 2, as is typical for fuses. They also act as switch disconnectors, thus reducing the components to be included in a panel.
Tripping of rotary type motor protection circuit breakers (SM1R) is shown visually. Both magnetic and thermal trip indication, for the SM1 with rotary knob and SM3 range, is given by the knob turning to the trip position, while a red flag on the SM1R is shown only if a short circuit occurs. High performance plastic is used on the SM1 range, offering IEC/EN 60335 compliance, for the foodservice industry and similar, and EN 45545 compliance for railway applications (fire protection and smoke emission).
The range of accessories has been completely renewed as well: auxiliary contacts, shunt trip releases and undervoltage trip releases, padlockable door coupling handles and SM1Z enclosures both for the push button and rotary version.
